Scholarships through the American Art Therapy Association

There are a number of scholarships available to graduate students in Art Therapy from the American Art Therapy Association.
Their biggest scholarship, the Anniversary Award totaled $2,000.00 last year. There are scholarships to travel to conferences and scholarships for research. Go to the main AATA website by clicking here

Scholarships for Southern Residents

The National Association of Junior Auxiliaries offeres scholarships to graduate students who will be working with children. If you have an interest in working with children, will be graduating from an art therapy program, and are a resident of a southern state apply for this scholarship.

The award last year totaled $5,000.

Scholarships from the SAH

The Society for the Arts in Healthcare also gives out a scholarship. Actually though the scholarship is an award for demonstrating (through a video for example) that the arts improve the quality of healthcare for patients, families, or caregivers. The award quantity is $500.00 for students.

Document whatever you do at your intership! Submit a video!

NOTE: Application is typically due in January. Applicants are notified by February

Application for the Award

Conference Scholarships

The American Institute of Medical Education has an annual conference entitled: Creativity and Madness every year over the summer. This conference is a great opportunity to meet a wide range of professionals who are passionate about the arts. This is not a conference particularly geared towards art therapists but it may be a great place to network! The Mary Lou Panter Scholarship funds the travel to the conference and gives a $500 award.

Scholarships for Research

The American Art Therapy Association offers an award for excellence in research. The monetary amount is $100.00.

It's aimed at recent graduates.

Scholarships for Travel

1.) If you're planning to go abroad, or to travel then the Student & Youth Travel Association Scholarship might be right for you.

NOTE: Applications will be reviewed five times per year. Deadlines are December 15, February 15, April 15, August 15 and October 15. Students aged 25 and under.

Amount: Up to $1,000

2.) The InterExchange Foundation Grant Program funds work abroad experiences. Awards can total up to 10,000. There are two different scholarships offered through the InterExchange Foundation but the below is the most applicable to Art Therapy graduates:

If you are interested in the SAH scholarship (see post) and have been video taping your activities at your internship, then you may be eligible for an additional scholarship.

Deadline: June 6th. First place awards total $3,000. Christian theme.

The Christopher Video Contest asks you to interpret: "One Person Can Make a Difference" on film or video in five minutes or less. Art Therapists are in the role of service within the community. We make a difference!
